Played with a curved wooden stick, known as a caman, and a small leather ball, shinty has long been part of Bute's heritage, with the Buteman Cup contested on the island since 1900. 1 Their Royal Highnesses will meet representatives from the club's senior and youth teams before spending time with volunteers and former players in the clubhouse, which was built by members of the local community and houses team photographs dating back to 1907. They will then head to the pitch to watch training activities and meet young players taking part in the sport. Bute Shinty Club is the one a small number of Scottish island teams in the sport and plays its home matches at the Meadows, which has been the club's home ground for more than a century. The club is committed to encouraging young people to participate in the historic sport, working closely with local schools and actively promoting opportunities for girls to get involved.
