Headline: Cyclists Protest US-Led Pax Silica Initiative
Caption: A bike ride was led by local cyclists, along with environmental advocates, in condemnation of the US-led Pax Silica Initiative that participants say will destroy the livelihoods of local farming communities, displace local indigenous communities, and consume tremendous amounts of water that would have otherwise be utilized by local Filipinos. The route started in the Quezon City Hall and ended in the Bonifacio Shrine where the closing program was held with each sector that participated in the bike ride expressing their message of solidarity to the cause. Multiple stops where held in front of the office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Mendiola Peace Arch, the entrance to the MalacaƱang Palace where the incumbent president takes office, where noise barrages and symbolic actions where done by the cyclists in order to seek accountability for the aforementioned initiative's projected environmental and economic damages. The groups explained that the aforementioned government agencies where complicit in the project's entry in the Philippines. Military and police presence was noticeable across the entirety of the bike ride with authorities attempting to profile the cyclists.
