Caption: UK Government Reveals Plan to Electrify Car Fleet, PM’s Armoured SUV Exempt. Government’s pledge to electrify 30,000 vehicles by 2027 includes zero-emissions commitment for central government cars and vans. The plan titled “Decarbonising Transport, A Better Greener Britain” aims for 100% zero-emission government fleet. Notable exemptions include the Prime Minister’s armoured £400,000 Range Rover ‘Sentinel’ with its V8 engine. Armoured vehicles like the Prime Minister’s limo are exempt due to practical challenges with EV modifications and bomb-proofing. Keir Starmer’s armoured cars, including the Prime Minister’s fleet, will also be exempt under the new policy. The government’s fleet includes more than 30,000 vehicles, one of the largest owner-operated fleets in the UK. Vehicles affected by the plan include cars and vans operated by executive agencies, non-ministerial departments, and hired vehicles. Exemptions extend to emergency response vehicles, including those with blue lights and vehicles not used for road transport. Deadline for the ban on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles is set for 2027, ahead of the UK’s ZEV Mandate in 2030. The UK’s broader goal includes a ban on hybrid-ICE vehicles by 2035, in line with environmental and sustainability efforts.
