British and U.S. citizens narrowly escaped injury in the strike, which came the same day American officials announced they were pausing intelligence sharing with Ukraine. The missile struck the five-story hotel around 10 p.m. local time, with initial reports indicating a 53-year-old man had died. The Governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Serhiy Lysak later reported that a man and a woman had also killed in the attack, while a 43-year-old man died in hospital on Thursday morning. At least 30 other people suffered injuries, including a child, with 14 of those injured in a serious condition, according to Lysak. Speaking about the attack on his hometown President Zelensky revealed that members of a humanitarian organisation, including British and U.S. citizens, had narrowly avoided injury or worse. “Just before the strike, volunteers from a humanitarian organization checked into the hotel - citizens of Ukraine, the United States, and Britain,” he wrote in a statement. “They survived because they managed to get out of their rooms. But, unfortunately, four people were killed in the strike. My condolences to their families and friends.” The missile strike also damaged 14 apartment buildings, a post office, more than 20 cars, a cultural centre, and 12 shops, the local governor said. Ukraine's State Emergency Service’s rescuers were still working at the site as of Thursday morning and have warned there may be additional victims under the rubble. Kryvyi Rih is the hometown of President Zelensky and has been a frequent target of Russian missile attacks. It is located roughly 40 miles northwest of the nearest front line. The attack on Kryvyi Rih came as American officials paused military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, following a fraught meeting between President Zelensky and U.S. President Trump last week. The move has been called a “betrayal” in Europe, and experts have warned that it will undermine Ukraine’s ability to defend itself from Russian missile strikes like the deadly one on Kryvyi Rih
