Caption: British-Italian Teen Carlo Acutis to Become First Millennial Saint on September 7. Pope Leo XIV has announced that Carlo Acutis will be canonized as the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint on September 7. Acutis, who died from leukemia in 2006 at age 15, used his computer skills to promote the Catholic faith online. Known as “God’s influencer”, the British-born Italian teen created a website documenting Eucharistic miracles. The ceremony, to be held in St. Peter’s Square, will be Pope Leo’s first canonization and is expected to draw thousands of young people. Acutis will be canonized alongside Pier Giorgio Frassati, a fellow young Catholic who died in 1925 at age 24. A second miracle attributed to Acutis was confirmed in May: the healing of a Costa Rican girl after a head injury. His first miracle, recognized in 2020, involved the healing of a Brazilian boy with a severe birth defect. Acutis’ beatification took place in 2020, setting him on the path to sainthood after growing popularity among Gen Z Catholics. Often seen in jeans and sneakers, Acutis is a relatable symbol of modern faith for today’s youth. His mother, Antonia Salzano, said Carlo also spent his life helping Milan’s homeless and giving away his pocket money.
