In a single, seamless theatrical movement, it reveals a leather-lined holder that gently elevates the playing pieces, a moment designed to mirror the drama of a Rolls-Royce’s coach doors swinging open. Each piece is a miniature sculpture in its own right – faceted, sculpted from ceramic-coated aluminium, magnetically weighted and topped with a polished stainless-steel crown. The black set has a sleek satin finish, while the white gleams with a soft iridescence. The hidden magnets not only keep everything in place – even mid-checkmate – but glide like silk across the board, thanks to six rounds of magnetic testing to perfect the strength. The board itself comes in four luxurious veneer pairings, from glossy Blackwood and Ceramic White to the rich textures of Smoked Eucalyptus and Paldao. Clients can personalise the set further with their choice of 13 Rolls-Royce leather shades, including the eye-popping Phoenix Red and cool Iceland Moss. And because this is Rolls-Royce, practicality hasn’t taken a back seat: a discreet drawer holds an extra queen on each side, just in case one of your pawns gets promoted in style. No detail is overlooked – the laser-cut veneer squares are taken from the same log to ensure the grain ages evenly over time. Even the aluminium grid is hand-refined to ensure millimetre-perfect corners, a delicate process given how easily the metal bends.
