The Day 'n' Nite rapper revealed on Wednesday's episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast that he turned down testifying in the trial twice before receiving a subpoena that ordered him to take the witness stand. Cudi was ordered to testify in the high-profile trial in New York because of his brief relationship with Combs' ex, Cassie Ventura, one of the trial's key witnesses, in the early 2010s. On the podcast, the 41-year-old star, real name Scott Mescudi, explained that he took the stand to support Cassie. ”I hated every minute of it. I did not want to do it, but then I thought about - when I was up there - I'm here to support Cassie... Cassie is my friend, and I love her and I want to see her do well.” Combs, 55, was on trial for sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He was found guilty on two counts of the latter charge but acquitted of the others. During his testimony, Cudi alleged that Combs was "abusive" to Cassie during their relationship. He also claimed that the I'll Be Missing You rapper broke into his house while he was dating Cassie, and alleged that Combs set fire to his Porsche after the split. ”I've always just wanted to see her thrive and do well and be happy. I know she was living a nightmare. I just was there to support her. That's what, kind of, gave me peace with it. When I sat down in that chair, it was just about, 'Damn, I don't want to do this.' To being like, 'Oh man, I got to hold homegirl down and look out for her.’” Cudi added that he wore blue jeans and a leather jacket for his court appearance because he refused to dress up "for this s**t”.
