Caption: Netherlands’ Broadcaster Pulls Out of Eurovision Again Over Israel’s Participation. AVROTROS, the Dutch public broadcaster, has announced that it will boycott the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest for a second consecutive year, Citing Israel’s continued participation and the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which has not substantially improved since the last edition. The broadcaster said the contest can no longer be considered sufficiently neutral while a participating country remains involved in a major military conflict. AVROTROS also criticised what it described as the lack of clear rules governing the participation of countries involved in wars. They argue that recent changes by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have not restored the contest’s independent and neutral character. The network said the humanitarian suffering in Gaza and restrictions on press freedom were also incompatible with its values of trustworthiness, independence and humanity. This does not mean that the Netherlands will be absent from Eurovision 2027, as NPO, the umbrella organisation, could potentially assign the task to another of its broadcasters.
