The comprehensive study into cryolipolysis - the popular non-surgical fat reduction treatment commonly referred to as "fat freezing" - has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Obesity Review. The analysis drew on data from 3,158 individuals across 30 separate clinical studies, providing the most robust evidence to date on the efficacy and safety of cryolipolysis. On average, patients taking part in the study saw a Body Mass Index (BMI) reduction of approximately 1.8 points, alongside a decrease in abdominal circumference of 3.56 centimetres. Dr Roshan Ravindran, lead author of the study and CEO and Medical Director of KLNIK, which provides cryolipolysis treatments, says: "The findings should reassure both patients and clinicians. Not only is cryolipolysis generally safe, but it is also genuinely effective.” "For years we have relied on single-centre studies or anecdotal results. Now we have a robust review of data from more than 3,000 participants, showing that fat freezing can achieve real results. This research also helps put the risks in perspective; serious side effects are extremely rare.” Cryolipolysis, also known by the brand name CoolSculpting, works by applying controlled cold temperatures to targeted areas of the body, breaking down fat cells which are then naturally eliminated by the body's metabolic system. The procedure has surged in popularity worldwide in recent years as a non-invasive alternative to liposuction, with millions of sessions performed annually. The analysis in Obesity Review included data from 30 studies and involved more than 3,000 patients worldwide, making it the largest and most rigorous evaluation of cryolipolysis outcomes to date.
