Headline: ‘Dream’ Signed Copy Of Nirvana Album 'Nevermind' Could Sell For Upwards Of £12,000
Caption: A fully signed copy of Nirvana’s seminal 1991 album Nevermind could sell for upwards of £12,000 when it heads to auction in Wiltshire on Wednesday. The origins of the rare piece of memorabilia date back to 4 November 1991 when the then emerging band played to just 700 people at The Bierkeller in Bristol. After the show a couple of friends of the local promoter hung out at the venue and shared a beer with drummer Dave Grohl, and bassist Krist Novoselic – who happily signed their items – one being a ticket, and one being the sleeve of their recently released Nevermind album. The pals then knocked on the door of the dressing room and were welcomed in by the group’s singer Kurt Cobain who was chilling out post-gig. Kurt also signed the items before the pair then went back out to the venue to continue their conversation with Dave and Krist. The record then spent 30 years in a loft, but is now set to go under the hammer at specialist vinyl & memorabilia auctioneers Wessex Auction Rooms in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Auctioneer and music specialist Martin Hughes commented: “I am extremely excited to have such an important part of musical history included in our auction. Full sets of Nirvana signatures from this period are extremely rare, and to have them signed so perfectly on the sleeve of the most iconic a “As a Bristol man myself, the local connection is also exciting for me. That Bristol Bierkeller show is the stuff of legend. I have known the vendor (a well-known local Rock & Metal DJ) for many years but have never been shown this mythical item he claimed to have in his loft… and now here it is for the world to see!” “I wouldn’t be surprised to see this sell for well over £10,000. It will attract major interest from around every corner of the globe.” The sleeve is expected to sell for between £12,000 and £15,000 when it hits the auction block on Wednesday.
