Caption: Barca's Nou Camp Return Delayed After Permit Denied. Barcelona’s return to the Nou Camp has been further delayed after the city council denied their request for a crucial permit on Tuesday. The club had hoped to host Real Sociedad at the Nou Camp on Sunday, with a reduced capacity of 27,000, but the match will now take place at the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic hill. The 55,000-seater Olympic Stadium has been Barcelona's home during Nou Camp's renovation, with the team having played at the much smaller Johan Cryuff Stadium for their previous two home games. Barcelona expressed gratitude to their members and supporters, acknowledging the complexity of the renovation process and their work on meeting the city's required amendments. The city’s fire department raised safety concerns, including issues with evacuation routes, leading to the permit denial. Operations director Joan Sentelles reassured the public that the stadium is safe despite being incomplete, with the roof now expected to be completed by the summer of 2027. The £1.1bn renovation, which began in June 2023, aims to modernize the Nou Camp and expand its capacity to 105,000, making it one of the largest stadiums in the world. Barcelona’s planned return to the Nou Camp in November 2024 for its 125th anniversary has been delayed, with safety concerns now taking precedence.
