Headline: Bizarre Puffer Jacket Lets You Doze Off Anytime And Anywhere
Caption: Japanese designers have created a revolutionary puffer jacket that allows wearers to drift off to sleep anywhere – whether on a train, at the office, or even outdoors. The ZZZN Sleep Apparel System is equipped with advanced technology that tracks biometric data, emits calming audio, and incorporates red light therapy to gently guide wearers into a restful sleep. The design modernises Yagi, a traditional Japanese winter sleepwear, and features a range of adjustable elements – including drawstrings on the sleeves and hem, as well as cuff tabs – to ensure a snug and comfortable fit for every user. Despite its bulky appearance, the sleep puffer is surprisingly lightweight thanks to photoelectric fibre padding, which also helps maintain warmth in extreme weather conditions. What truly sets the ZZZN Sleep Apparel System apart is its state-of-the-art sleep-tracking features. Each jacket comes with the SOXAI ring, a wearable device that monitors heart rate, stress levels, and sleep cycles. The data syncs to an app, allowing users to review their sleep quality once they wake up. Built-in headphones – discreetly integrated into the headpiece – play sleep-inducing sounds using frequency bands similar to binaural beats, which are believed to promote relaxation. The designers have strategically positioned the speakers to block external noise, helping wearers enter a state of deep rest. Another striking feature of the ZZZN Sleep Apparel System is its use of red light therapy. A small red light, concealed in the left exterior pocket, emits a subtle glow above the wearer’s forehead. The design team claims this mimics the hues of a sunset, signalling the body to wind down. Once the wearer is asleep, the built-in technology gradually transitions the light from red to blue in the morning, gently waking them with soft music – a stark contrast to the jarring sound of an alarm clock. For maximum adaptability, users can switch between different ‘modes’ of the sleep jacket. The headpiece, which can be worn like a helmet, provides full coverage, while the hood offers additional insulation. The hood itself is detachable and contains an air-pack collar – effectively functioning as a neck pillow for those wanting to sleep while sitting upright. The ZZZN Sleep Apparel System made its first public appearance at a trial session in Shibuya, Tokyo, on 7 February 2025. It will be followed by an official showcase at Expo 2025 Osaka, which will run from 13 April to 13 October 2025.
