Caption: Carlo Ancelotti Denies Tax Fraud as Trial Opens in Spain. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has appeared in court in Spain, accused of evading €1 million in taxes related to his image rights. “For me, everything was in order,” Ancelotti told the court. “I never thought about committing fraud.” The Italian coach said he left it to Real Madrid and his British adviser to structure his €6 million net salary when he joined the club. He explained that using such arrangements was common at the time among players and coaches. The Spanish tax authority alleges Ancelotti failed to declare income from image rights in 2014 and 2015. Prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence of four years and nine months, and a fine of €3.2 million. Ancelotti argued that image rights are less relevant for managers than players, saying: “They don’t sell shirts.” Before the trial, Spanish authorities had already seized the debt and interest owed. The trial could still end in an out-of-court settlement. A verdict is expected within weeks. Ancelotti’s wife, son Davide, and stepdaughter Chloe also testified. He rejoined Real Madrid in 2021 and has won the Champions League five times as a coach. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
