Caption: Hungary Threatens to Block New EU Sanctions on Russia Over Pipeline Dispute. Hungary says it will block the EU’s 20th sanctions package against Russia amid a dispute over halted oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced Budapest’s veto ahead of an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting. Oil shipments to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline stopped on January 27 after reported damage in western Ukraine. Budapest insists Ukraine must resume transit before it allows key EU decisions supporting Kyiv to proceed. Hungary has also threatened to block a €90 billion EU loan package for Ukraine, which requires unanimous approval. The standoff marks one of the sharpest disputes yet between Ukraine and its EU neighbors Hungary and Slovakia. Both countries have maintained warmer ties with Moscow than most EU members since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry condemned what it called “ultimatums and blackmail” over the pipeline issue. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
