Caption: Danish Prime Ministerial Candidate Alex Vanopslagh Admits Past Cocaine Use. Alex Vanopslagh admitted he had taken cocaine once or twice during his early time as party leader. Vanopslagh made the admission in a social media post after Danish media questioned party leaders ahead of the upcoming election. The 34-year-old candidate is challenging Mette Frederiksen in the March 24 vote. Vanopslagh said the drug use happened in a festive setting and never while performing his duties as party leader. He added that after recovering from a stress-related illness he has avoided drugs and drinks only wine. Prime Minister Frederiksen responded briefly to the controversy, saying the situation “speaks for itself”. Troels Lund Poulsen, leader of center-right Venstre, said it was up to the Liberal Alliance to decide Vanopslagh’s future role. Vanopslagh previously stirred debate in 2023 by suggesting cocaine could be legally sold in pharmacies under strict conditions.
