Caption: NASA Awards Moon Mission Contracts to Blue Origin and Other Space Firms. NASA has awarded major new contracts to several private space companies as part of its push to return humans to the moon under the Artemis program. Among the winners is Blue Origin, which received a 188 million dollar contract to transport lunar rovers to the moon using its uncrewed Mark 1 cargo lander. Space firms Astrolab and Lunar Outpost were also selected, each receiving more than 200 million dollars to develop next-generation lunar terrain vehicles. Meanwhile, Firefly Aerospace will build the spacecraft for NASA’s MoonFall mission, which plans to deliver drones to the moon by 2028. The contracts are part of NASA’s long-term strategy to build infrastructure and eventually establish a permanent human presence on the lunar surface. NASA’s Artemis missions are also laying the groundwork for future deep-space missions, including eventual human exploration of Mars.
