Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Lady Gaga declares 'trans people are not invisible' during Grammys acceptance speech
Caption: Lady Gaga voiced her support for the transgender community as she accepted her Grammy Award on Sunday night. The Bad Romance singer, who has been an outspoken ally of the LGBTQ+ community for many years, sent a powerful message to transgender people as she accepted the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Bruno Mars for their song Die with a Smile. Concluding her speech with a political declaration, Gaga said, "Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love, the queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you.” The pop star received rapturous applause and cheers for her statement and many members of the audience - including Charli XCX - even gave her a standing ovation. Her comments come shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump signed a raft of executive orders targeting trans people following his inauguration on 20 January. Among them is an order that declares the federal government will only recognise two unchangeable sexes. Gaga wasn't the only one who made a political statement during the show. While accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, Alicia Keys seemingly criticised Trump for signing executive orders that roll back diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. ”This is not the time to shut down a diversity of voices. We've seen on this stage talented, hard-working people from different backgrounds with different points of view, and it changes the game. DEI is not a threat - it's a gift," Keys stated as the audience roared with applause. ”The more voices, the more powerful the sound. When destructive forces try to burn us down, we rise from the ashes like a phoenix. And as you see tonight, music is the unstoppable language that connects us all.” In addition, Colombian singer Shakira addressed Trump's immigration policies as she dedicated her award for Best Latin Pop Album "to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country” She added, "You are loved. You are worth it and I will always fight with you.” The 2025 Grammy Awards were held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
