Beyoncé made a heartfelt speech after finally winning Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday night. Having missed out on the prestigious prize four times in the past, two members of the Los Angeles Fire Department presented the superstar with the award for her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter, at the end of the LA prizegiving. The honour made Beyoncé the first Black woman to win the coveted prize this century. After hugging her daughter Blue Ivy Carter and husband Jay-Z, Beyoncé took to the stage and began her acceptance speech by thanking first responders for their work in tackling the wildfires that broke out across the state last month. ”I'd like to thank and acknowledge and praise all of the firefighters for keeping us safe," Texas Hold 'Em hitmaker said, before insisting she felt "very full and very honoured" to finally win the accolade, adding: "It's been many, many years.” Beyoncé also gave a shout-out to her team and dedicated the prize to Linda Martell, one of the first commercially successful Black female artists in country music and the first to play the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. ”I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer for all of the hard work. I want to dedicate this to Ms. Martell. I hope we keep pushing forward opening doors. God bless y'all, thank you so much,” Elsewhere in the ceremony, the Texas-born singer also won Best Country Album, beating out Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, and Post Malone. Appearing stunned as presenter Taylor called out her name as the winner, Beyoncé insisted she was "really not expecting this" and thanked "all of the incredible country artists" who had voted for the prize. Previously, fans shared their outrage after the popular artist missed out on any nominations for Cowboy Carter at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards.
