Oil prices have climbed above $100 a barrel for the first time since July as escalating attacks in the Gulf region and Yemen raised fresh concerns over global energy supplies. Brent crude reached around $100.70, nearly 3% higher, after the United States said it had struck five Iranian tankers in retaliation for an attack on a US warship. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they responded by targeting eight tankers, two warships and a US base in Jordan. Iran also announced plans for a new prohibited shipping zone extending beyond the Strait of Hormuz into the Arabian Sea. Meanwhile, Iran-backed Houthi forces reported Saudi strikes in Yemen after their drone and missile attacks caused fires at Saudi oil facilities.
