Caption: Trump Calls Norway A 'Shithouse Country' Over Nobel Peace Prize. U.S. President Donald Trump called Norway a "shithouse country" while complaining about being repeatedly overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize. Speaking at a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, Trump said Norway "sucks" and declared he was "not in love" with the country. Trump has repeatedly promoted his peacemaking record, claiming to have helped end at least eight conflicts during his second term. The president was passed over for the prize in 2025, when it went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, and again in 2026. This year's Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to South African jurist Navi Pillay for her work promoting peace and international law. Trump made the remarks while discussing immigration, saying he would welcome people from Denmark but did not want immigrants from Norway. Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide responded by stressing that the Norwegian Nobel Committee operates independently of the government. Machado presented Trump with her Nobel medal at the White House in January, with Trump recalling the gesture during his Michigan rally.
