Caption: Mamdani Accuses NYC Leaders of Lying About 9/11 Air Quality. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has accused city leaders of lying to the public about the safety of the air around Ground Zero after the September 11 attacks. His administration released around 170,000 pages of previously withheld records detailing the city’s response to the toxic air that filled Lower Manhattan after the attacks. Mamdani said the documents showed that New Yorkers were assured it was safe to breathe despite serious concerns about contamination and the health risks posed by the debris. “People got sick because the leaders they trusted lied and told them they were safe to breathe in toxic air,” Mamdani said at a conference attended by 9/11 families, and comedian Jon Stewart. The documents were released as part of a settlement with 9/11 Health Watch, which had sued the city for access to records concerning what officials knew about the dangers. Mamdani stopped short of directly accusing former Mayor Rudy Giuliani of lying when asked about his predecessor, saying he would leave that judgment to New Yorkers Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
