Headline: UNCAPTIONED: The Weeknd delays album release in wake of California wildfires
Caption: The Weeknd is delaying the release of his album Hurry Up Tomorrow in light of the devastating California wildfires. An ongoing series of 23 blazes have affected Los Angeles and surrounding regions the past week, with thousands of buildings destroyed, 25 people dead, and 180,000 residents forced to evacuate. Taking to Instagram on Monday, The Weeknd - real name Abel Tesfaye - announced that he will be postponing the release of his sixth studio album until 31 January. In addition, he has decided to cancel a concert scheduled to take place at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California on 21 January. ”Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the Rose Bowl Show has been cancelled and the album date has been postponed to 01.31.25," he wrote, adding, "With love, Abel.” Fans who purchased tickets via Ticketmaster will receive refunds automatically. ”The city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.” The Weeknd's concert isn't the only event to be cancelled in Los Angeles as a result of the fires, with a number of gigs and pre-Grammy Awards parties canned as a result of the crisis. However, the Grammys are still slated to take place at the Crypto.com Arena on 2 February. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
