Caption: Steve McMichael Dies at 67 After ALS Battle. Steve McMichael, Chicago Bears legend and 1985 Super Bowl champion, passed away at 67 after a battle with ALS. He was also known for his larger-than-life personality and wrestling career. McMichael, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024, played 15 seasons in the NFL, recording 92.5 sacks, ranking second on the Bears' all-time list. After football, McMichael found success in professional wrestling, joining WCW and becoming a member of Ric Flair’s “Four Horsemen.” Diagnosed with ALS in 2021, McMichael fought the disease with the same determination he displayed on the field, but eventually, his health deteriorated. McMichael’s decline was heartbreaking, going from a 270-pound powerhouse to a frail figure dependent on machines, a stark contrast to his once-dominant presence. His wife, Misty, spoke about his strength during the struggle, sharing how she encouraged him to hold on until his Hall of Fame induction. Raised in Freer, Texas, McMichael was an all-around athlete before becoming a star at the University of Texas, later earning a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame. After a brief stint with the New England Patriots, McMichael’s aggressive style found a home with the Chicago Bears, where he became a cornerstone of their 1985 defense. McMichael was a key player on the legendary 1985 Bears defense, earning All-Pro honors and helping lead the team to a Super Bowl victory. Following his football career, McMichael continued in sports by hosting a Bears pregame show and coaching in the Indoor Football League.
