Caption: New York City To Offer $50 World Cup Tickets To Residents. New York City residents will get the chance to buy $50 tickets for selected FIFA World Cup matches this summer. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that 1,000 discounted tickets will be made available through a lottery system starting May 25. The tickets will apply to seven matches being played at MetLife Stadium, excluding the high-demand final. Some tickets for the July 19 World Cup final are currently selling for nearly $33,000. The discounted package will also include free roundtrip bus transportation to the stadium for ticket holders. City officials said the tickets will be non-transferable to prevent resale and ensure they go directly to New York residents. Mamdani said the initiative was designed to make sure “working people will not be priced out of the game that they helped to create.” FIFA previously faced criticism over soaring World Cup ticket prices, prompting calls for more affordable access for local fans.
