Caption: Italy Turn to World Cup Winner Gattuso as New Head Coach. Italy have appointed former midfielder Gennaro Gattuso as the new national team manager. Gattuso replaces Luciano Spalletti, who was dismissed following Italy's poor World Cup qualifying start. The 47-year-old won the 2006 World Cup with Italy and earned 73 caps during his playing career. Italy are struggling to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after a 3–0 loss to Norway left them third in Group I. Gattuso’s appointment comes as Italy aims to return to the World Cup after missing the last two editions. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) called Gattuso “a symbol of Italian football” and praised his dedication. FIGC President Gabriele Gravina said the blue jersey is “like a second skin” for Gattuso. Gattuso had a decorated playing career, most notably with AC Milan, where he won Serie A and the Champions League twice. Since retiring in 2013, Gattuso has managed nine clubs; Italy will be his 10th role in just 12 years. Gattuso will be officially presented to the media on Thursday, the FIGC confirmed.
