Caption: Massive Student-Led Rally Marches Through Belgrade Ahead Of Serbian Election. Around 150,000 people joined a student-led opposition rally in Belgrade ahead of Serbia's snap parliamentary election on Sunday. The Student List is seeking to end more than 14 years of rule by the Serbian Progressive Party of former President Aleksandar Vučić. The movement emerged from protests following the 2024 collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad that killed 16 people. Demonstrations initially demanded a transparent investigation into the disaster before developing into a wider anti-corruption movement calling for early elections. Students and supporters marched through Belgrade carrying "Students are winning" flags before gathering at Slavija Square. The Student List is fielding 250 candidates for the 250-seat parliament, many drawn from academia or with little previous involvement in politics. Vučić, who resigned as president to run for prime minister, has accused the student movement of being part of a foreign-backed attempt to overthrow the state. Civil society groups have raised concerns about election conditions, citing alleged intimidation, arrests and misuse of public resources during the campaign.
