Caption: Bloating: How to combat it this Christmas. Bloating, a feeling of tightness in the stomach often caused by gas in the intestines, can be caused by eating certain foods and consuming fizzy drinks, which are usually in abundance during the festive season. To help you reduce bloating this Christmas, Kim Plaza, a nutritionist at Bio-Kult, has shared her top tips. Stress reduction techniques. ”Learning some stress reduction tactics, such as breathing exercises, cognitive behavioural therapy techniques or mindfulness in the run-up to Christmas may therefore be useful.” Digest your food properly. ”A number of factors such as eating lots of heavy meals, may mean that you are not producing sufficient stomach acid and digestive enzymes to digest your food, contributing to digestive symptoms such as bloating," she explains. ”Whilst it's important to stay well hydrated throughout the day, try not to drink large amounts of liquid with meals as they may dilute stomach acid levels.” The nutritionist suggests taking a spoonful of unpasteurised apple cider vinegar in a small amount of water before sitting down to eat to help acidify the digestive tract and stimulate digestive secretions. Walk off Christmas dinner. ”It's easy to slip into a food coma on the sofa after eating Christmas dinner, but instead, wrap up warm, get outside and go for a gentle walk.” Increase fibre. ”Fibre is particularly important for digestion as it keeps our bowel movements regular, preventing constipation which can contribute to feelings of fullness and bloating.” Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
