Caption: Trump Accuses LeBron James Of 'Disrespecting' US National Anthem. U.S. President Donald Trump has accused NBA star LeBron James of disrespecting the country during the national anthem before a Philadelphia 76ers game. James appeared to practise a golf swing and basketball shots as the Star-Spangled Banner was performed ahead of the season opener against the New York Knicks. Trump said James should apologise to American military personnel who had died serving the country and called his behaviour a "TOTAL DISGRACE”. James has not publicly responded to Trump's comments, while the BBC said it had contacted him and the Philadelphia 76ers for comment. The national anthem is traditionally performed before professional sports games in the U.S., with players and spectators generally expected to stand. The tradition has previously become politically contentious, notably when former NFL player Colin Kaepernick knelt during the anthem to protest racism and police brutality. Trump and James have repeatedly criticised each other, with the basketball star previously supporting Democratic presidential candidates against Trump. James, 41, is the NBA's all-time leading scorer with more than 40,000 points and signed a two-year contract with Philadelphia in July.
