Confidence is important because it gives you the skills and coping mechanisms to deal with setbacks, but it is also something that many of us need to work on. As we think about New Year's resolutions ahead of New Year's Eve, many of us are thinking about improving our confidence. Dr Sophie Ward, a Head of Department for Psychology at Arden University, has shared four ways to feel more confident in ourselves. Practice positive self-talk First of all, it is important to know that the way you talk to yourself can affect your confidence. "Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations and encourage yourself with uplifting and empowering statements," Dr Ward recommends. "This will help shift your mindset and increase your self-belief." While it can be tempting to dwell on what you want to change about yourself, focusing on what you are good at can make you feel more confident. "Identify and celebrate your strengths and remind yourself of what you do well," the expert says. "You can always use your strengths to boost your confidence in challenging situations." Step out of your comfort zone Challenging yourself may sound daunting, but it can help build your confidence and expand your horizons. ”Push yourself to try new things and take on challenges, even if they feel intimidating," advises Dr Ward, adding that every time you succeed at something, you'll feel more confident. Adopt a growth mindset If you do experience a setback, try to see it as an opportunity for growth rather than a disaster. "See challenges as opportunities to learn, not as roadblocks. If you train yourself to believe that with effort and persistence, you can continuously evolve and improve, you'll feel more confident when trying new things. “ Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
