Caption: Tina Knowles opens up about being diagnosed with breast cancer after missing mammogram. The businesswoman, who is the mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles has revealed she was diagnosed with the disease in July 2024 after delaying her mammogram for four years. Knowles underwent surgery in August to remove the cancerous tissue and had a second operation in September to remove a haematoma. The 71-year-old opened up about the health scare in her new memoir Matriarch, which was released on Tuesday. ”My doctor told me I had breast cancer. A small tumor in my left breast that was cancerous; the larger tumor in my right breast was benign, but it would also have to go.” "She said I was Stage 1A, assuring me my prognosis was good. The next step was to talk to an oncologist and a breast surgeon.” Knowles noted that when she was diagnosed, she "immediately" thought of her late father, Lumis Albert Beyincé, who also suffered from cancer. ”I sat there in a daze, rubbing my neck. I immediately thought of my father, all those times taking him to chemo and how much cancer took from him. I had been through all of this stuff in life getting to be 70 years old, and now I'm gonna get cancer?”. During an appearance on CBS Mornings on Tuesday, Knowles admitted that she kept putting off and missing her scheduled mammogram. ”It was stage 1, which I thought was the earliest stage. And then when I told my sister, she said, 'No, actually, there's a zero.’” “So if I had gone for my mammogram, I would've got it at the zero stage. Thank God, it was still very small, hadn't spread. It was a very slow-spreading cancer.” In a separate interview with People, the businesswoman confirmed that she is now cancer-free and "doing great”.
