Headline: UNCAPTIONED; Shakira: 'I live in constant fear as an immigrant in the US'

Caption: Shakira has revealed she lives in "constant fear" as an immigrant in the US. In a new interview with BBC News, the Colombian-born star discussed the impact of US President Donald Trump's attitude to immigration. While Shakira felt accepted and welcome when she moved to Miami as a teenager, she now feels afraid of what could happen next. ”I was only 19 when I moved to the US, like many other Colombian immigrants who come to this country looking for a better future," she explained, before she was asked how it feels to be an immigrant in the US today. "It means living in constant fear," she replied. "And it's painful to see.” Shakira, 48, went on to urge people to stand up for their rights and stay strong in the face of adversity. "Now, more than ever, we have to remain united," she insisted. "Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane.” Shakira is currently on her sold-out tour, titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry), performing across North and South America. When asked if the tour will come to Europe, Shakira smiled and told fans to "stay tuned”. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
