Snap Inc chief executive Evan Spiegel told the BBC that maximum daily usage limits could represent an important step forward for the social media industry. Meta recently agreed to pay $12.7 billion to settle legal claims from US states alleging Facebook and Instagram were deliberately designed to be addictive to young users. The company denied wrongdoing. Under the settlement, Meta will introduce a default two-hour daily limit for teenagers, mute notifications during school hours and block access at night. Spiegel said Snapchat had carefully examined the measures and believed establishing common industry standards could be beneficial. Meta has also pledged tougher restrictions and an additional $5.3 billion payment if YouTube and TikTok adopt similar measures.
