Caption: Global Travel and Tourism Investment Rises 8.5% to Top $1 Trillion. Global investment in travel and tourism surpassed $1 trillion in 2025 for the first time since 2019, rising 8.5% from the previous year, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). The sector also made a record contribution of $11.6 trillion to global GDP last year, underlining its growing importance to the world economy. The United States, China, India and Saudi Arabia accounted for almost half of all tourism-related capital investment, with combined spending of around $500 billion. The WTTC expects the industry to contribute $17.1 trillion to the global economy by 2036 and generate almost 89 million additional jobs over the next decade. Spain remains one of the sector's major markets, with travel and tourism estimated to account for 15.3% of its GDP and generate $130 billion in spending by international visitors. Looking ahead, the WTTC expects Indonesia to become one of the world's fastest-growing markets, while the Netherlands is projected to record Europe's strongest growth in investment. Despite geopolitical uncertainty and economic challenges, the council said the long-term outlook for travel and tourism remains exceptionally strong.
