Caption: British Morris Dancer Smashes World Record With Continuous 11 Hour Performance. Duncan Bhaskaran Brown from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, obtained what may be one of the most quintessentially British world records on Saturday by Morris dancing continuously for an astonishing 11 hours and 2 minutes. The solo effort began in Abingdon Market Place just after 5am, with Duncan dressed in full traditional Morris attire and quietly stepping into the challenge without fanfare. By 4:09pm, he brought the marathon to a triumphant close, joined by nearly 50 fellow dancers in a massed Morris dance finale that filled the square with music, bells, and cheers. Among those supporting Duncan in his successful attempt was local MP and leading Liberal Democrat parliamentarian Layla Moran. “It was amazing to see all the support today, not just for me but for both the charities we’ve been supporting,” said Duncan. The feat has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records, with independent witnesses present throughout the day to ensure strict adherence to the organisation’s guidelines. Duncan took more than 100,000 steps, danced to 186 traditional folk tunes, and burned over 6,000 calories—roughly the equivalent of 7.5 full English breakfasts. “It got tough towards the end, my legs were really starting to hurt. I know I’m going to feel it tomorrow,” he admitted, still smiling through clear exhaustion. The event raised over £1,500 for two important local charities: One Planet Abingdon, a community hub promoting climate action and sustainability, and Abingdon Volunteer Drivers.
