Caption: WhatsApp Deletes 6.8 Million Scam Accounts in Global Crackdown. WhatsApp has removed more than 6.8 million accounts linked to international scams in the first half of this year, according to parent company Meta. Many of the accounts were tied to organised crime groups in South East Asia, where forced labour is often used to run scam centres. Criminals frequently hijack accounts or add users to group chats promoting fake investments and other fraudulent schemes. Meta says WhatsApp now uses new anti‑scam tools to warn users if they’re added to a group by someone outside their contacts. The platform also proactively detects and removes suspicious accounts before they can target victims. In one case, Meta and WhatsApp worked with OpenAI to disrupt a Cambodian criminal group that used ChatGPT to write scam messages promoting a fake scooter rental pyramid scheme. Most scams ultimately aim to move victims to payment or cryptocurrency platforms to complete the fraud, Meta said Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
