Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will return to competitive tennis at the U.S. Open following more than four months out with a wrist injury. The seven-time Grand Slam champion will attempt to defend his title at the New York tournament, which runs from August 30 to September 13. Alcaraz has not competed since withdrawing from the Barcelona Open in April because of the injury. The Spaniard subsequently missed the French Open, Wimbledon and the North American hard-court events in Toronto and Cincinnati. Alcaraz had initially targeted Cincinnati for his comeback but decided to give his wrist additional time to recover. He has gradually increased his training workload and recently practised with Denmark's Holger Rune in Murcia to test his wrist at higher intensity. Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam at the U.S. Open in 2022, becoming the youngest player to reach world number one in the ATP rankings.
