The new 3,000 sq m US consulate in Nuuk has been nicknamed “Trump Towers” by locals amid tensions over Washington’s interest in the Arctic territory. Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen declined to attend the consulate opening ceremony, along with other senior politicians. During his visit, Landry suggested Greenland could achieve a stronger economy as an independent nation, while stressing US strategic interests in the Arctic. The White House said the US remained “optimistic” about strengthening ties with Greenland and addressing American national security concerns in the region.
